Description of Swanscombe church (in the jurisdiction of the diocese and deanery of Rochester) and dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul
"Sir Anthony Weldon of Swanscombe, Co. Kent, was the eldest son of Sir Ralph Weldon of Swanscombe (1546-1609), clerk of the green cloth and Elizabeth, daughter of Leven Buskin. James I knighted Sir Anthony at Berwick in 1617".[2]
  • Mention of Levin Buffkin's daughter Elizabeth who married Sir Ralph Weldon. They had 4 sons (Anthony, Henry, Lever (Levin?) and Ralph; and six daughters. These 10 were the grandchildren of Levin Buffkin. A very grand alabaster monument was erected in the church by Elizabeth for her husband. The monument shows that Sir Ralph Weldon's grandfather Edw. Weldon served HenryVII and was master of the household to King Henry VIII, whom likewise Thomas Weldon, his uncle, served and was cofferer to King Edward VI and Queen Elizabeth; Anthony Weldon, his father served Queen Elizabeth, and died Clerk of the Greencloth;"

Also the description of Arms of Sir Ralph part of which incorporates "Impaling Buffkin." Buffkin coat of arms is described elsewhere as azure with three helmets.

"This church in former times was much resorted to by a company of pilgrims who came hither for St. Hildeferth's help, who by his picture, which was in the upper window of the south side, appears to have been a bishop, to whom such as were distracted came to be cured of their insanity."

From the earliest account of time it was esteemed an appendage to the manor of Swanscombe; although, in the reign of king Henry III there arose a dispute between the prior and convent of St. Mary's . . .

Thank you so much for this very precious information on some of the earliest Weldons known. I really appreciate it that I could find it here and trace the genealogy of so many back so far.
