Vernon E. Vern Brasel, 95, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Bethany Lutheran Home in Sioux Falls, SD.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM Sunday, August 30, 2009 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with the family present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, August 31, 2009 at George Boom Funeral Home with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Vernon E. Vern Brasel, the son of Luther and Cloe (McCord) Brasel was born June 16, 1914 in Dow City, IA. When Vern was four years old, his mother died. Luther then married Louise Doig. Vern was educated in Dell Rapids, SD.

Vern was united in marriage with Floma Bishop in Sioux Falls. He worked as a truck driver for John Morrell & Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1979. Floma died in 1981.

In 1985, Vern was united in marriage with Margaret Vig in Sioux Falls.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Margaret of Sioux Falls; four sons, Ken (Arlene) Brasel of Sioux Falls, Verne (Louise) Brasel of Hanford, CA, Rodger (Renee) Brasel of Hanford, CA, Gary (Marie) Brasel of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Sandra (Don) Hammer of Trent, SD, Laura (Robert) Struck of Platte, SD; a step-daughter, Jennifer Carney; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Patrick (Lorraine) Brasel of Sioux Falls; four sisters, Betty (Chuck) Berg of Renner, SD, Linda Hall of Sioux Falls, Connie (Dale) Fritz of Sioux Falls, Beverly Gillespie of Las Vegas, NV; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother; two daughters, Lila and Sandra; two sons, Virgil and Gary; a grandson, Chad; two granddaughters, Donna Jean and Debbie; two brothers, Thomas and Elmer; and three sisters, Gladys, Marjorie, and Dorothy.
