He was ordained a Priest on 8 April 1617 and presented by the Crown as Prebendary of Connor, by patent dated 9 June 1619. [Lib. Mun.], holding in addition the prebend or rectory of Muckamore. He was chaplain to King Charles I.
His patent as Dean of Down was dated 30 May 1627. [Rolls Office.], but he was not installed till 10th April 1628. (FF.).
In June, 1628, he was made Treasurer of St. Patrick's, Dublin, and was installed on July 16. However there was some difficulty there, from a contested patronage between the Crown and the Archbishop. Ambrose Aungier seems to have retained possession at that time; and Leslie succeeded as Treasurer on Aungier' s resignation in 1632.
The patent for his promotion as Bishop of Down and Connor was dated 24 September 1635. The King allowed him to hold, at the same time, the prebend of Mullabrack in the cathedral of Armagh.
He bore a very high character for piety and learning; and was a warm adherent to King Charles I. throughout all his wanderings and troubles. Having passed unhurt through the times of the Rebellion and the Commonwealth, and having received a pension of £120 a year for some time under the Protectorate, he was translated to the see of Meath upon the Restoration of King Charles II.
He succeeded as Bishop of Meath by patent dated 18 January 1661 and died in Dublin on 7 April 1661. Buried on the 10th April, in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin.
Henry Leslie DD, Lord Bishop of Meath, married Jane Swinton.

He died at Dublin at a great age, 7th April 1661." citing Cotton
