Biography

Barbara was born in 1810 to Henry Edward Gould Yelverton, 19th Lord (of Ruthin) and Anna Maria Kelham.[1]

She was born on the 20th of May 1810[1]at Brandon House, Warwickshire, England.[2]

She was married twice, firstly, George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings, 2nd Marquess of Hastings, son of Flora Campbell, the 6th Countess of Loudoun and Francis Rawdon-Hastings, 1st Marquess of Hastings, on the 18th of August 1831.[1]at Wolston, Warwickshire, England.[3]

She married, secondly, Admiral Sir Hastings Reginald Yelverton, son of the Lady Emily Elizabeth FitzGerald and John Joseph Henry, on the 9th of April 1845.[4]

GREY DE RUTHYN, BARONESS (BARBARA YELVERTON), in the peerage of England; only child of Henry Edward, 20th Lord (who died during her infancy), by Anna Maria, dau. of Mr. William Kelham (now wife of the Hon. and Rev. William Eden, and present Dowager Lady Grey de Ruthyn); born 1810; succeeded her father in the same year; married 1st, 1831, George Augustus Francis, 2nd Marquis of Hastings, who died 1844; and by him has had issue,

  • Henry Weysford Charles Plantagenet, present and 4th Marquis of HASTINGS, b. 1842 (whom see).
  • Paulyn Reginald Serlo Rawdon Hastings, Marquis of HASTINGS, b. 1832; d. Jan. 16, 1851 - Edith Maud, b. 1833 - Bertha Selgarde, b. 1835 - Victoria Mary Louisa, b. 1837 - Frances Augusta Constance, b. (posthumous) 1844.

The Baroness married 2ndly, 1845, Captain Hastings Reginald Henry, R.N., nephew of the Duke of Leinster, who has assumed by sign manual the name of Yelverton, and has issue by the Baroness,

  • Barbara, b. Jan. 12, 1849.

Roger de Grey, of Ruthyn Castle, a younger son of John, 3rd Baron Grey de Wilton (see STAMFORD), was summoned by writ, 1324, as Baron Grey de Ruthyn. He married the granddaughter and co-heir of Aymer de Vallence, Earl of Pembroke. The 4th baron was created Earl of Kent, 1465, a title which passed from this line on decease of the 8th earl; and the 15th baron, Earl of Sussex, which dignity expired with its third possessor. The name of Yelverton came into the family by the marriage of Susan Longueville, Baroness Grey de Ruthyn (grand-niece of Henry Grey, 8th Earl of Kent), with Sir Henry Yelverton, Bart., of Easton Mauduit, co. Northampton.
