Biography

Baptism

Born 28 July 1848 at Paarl. Baptized at Paarl Strooidak kerk 20/08/1848. Son of Godlieb Wilhelm Anthonie van der Lingen & Elizabeth Johanna Hendrika Vos. Father Godlieb was Pastor at Strooidak kerk Paarl, and Founder of Paarl Gymnasium, over the road from his residence.(now Paarl museum)^[1]

Tertiary education

Gottlieb attended school of theology.

Occupation

Pastor van der Lingen was Appointed to work at the Dutch Reformed church, viz. Moedergemeente, Kroonstad from 1877 - 1914. During this time 2 churches were erected. The 1st one was complete 24 November 1877, and designed by Carl Otto Hager. The 2nd church, with a corrugated iron roof, and a dome was completed 1914. Gottlieb was mostly responsible for this church (moeder gemeente). He passed away while in service of this community in Kalkbay.

Pastor Gottlieb Wilhelm Bruckner van der Lingen was 1st married to Susanna Sophia Moll, on 24/01/1877 do Pieter de Villiers Moll of Paarl; with a Special license.^[2]

Pastor Gottlieb W.B van der Lingen married Maria Jacoba Meyer at Paarl strooidak kerk 6/4/1897.^[3] They 3 had children. Francis Johan 27/2/1898 Theodopolis Cornelis 21/10/1899 Justus Herman 15/11/1905

Death

Gottlieb Wilhelm Bruckner van der Lingen died on 21/12/1914 at Kalkbay, Western Province. Death notice MHG l 1878 filed with the Master refers.^[4]
