Nicolas Netterville was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Biography

Nicholas Netterville was born about 1581, son of John Netterville of Dowth, County Meath. Nicholas was the grandson of Luke Netterville, judge of the Court of King's Bench (Ireland) and nephew of the statesman Richard Netterville. His mother was Eleanor Gernon, daughter of Sir James Gernon. He was a favourite of King James I, who ennobled him in 1622 for being "a person of many good qualities". [1]

Nicholas married 1st to Eleanor Bathe, daughter of Sir John Bathe, Esq, of Drumcondra, Dublin. Eleanor died in 1634.

He was created Viscount on 3 Apr. 1622 but did not take his seat in the House of Lords until 1634.  He was outlawed in 1646 for joining the lords of the pale; he joined the Confederate Catholics in 1644 and was their treasurer-general two years later.  He was excluded from Cromwell's pardon in 1652.

He is thought to have been buried at Monkstown, Co. Dublin.
