Frederick James Manners was born on 16 April 1804 at Petersham, Surrey, England, the son of Sir William Manners and his wife Catharine Gray. He was baptised at the parish church of Patersham on 10 May 1804. [1]

In March 1821, the family name was changed to Tollemache on the occasion of Frederick's grandmother Louisa (Tollemache) Manners inheriting the Earldom of Dysart.
Frederick's first wife was Sarah Maria Bomford, daughter of Robert Bomford and Maria Massy-Dawson, who he married on 26 August 1831. Their only child from this marriage was Louisa Maria Tollemache (27 August 1832 – 16 May 1863), who died unmarried
Sarah died in 1835.
Frederick married secondly, Isabella Anne Forbes, daughter of George Gordon Forbes, on 4 September 1847.
Their daughter was Ada Maria Katherine Tollemache b. c 1849, d. 6 Jan 1928
He was buried at the parish church of Petersham, Surrey on 7 July 1888. [2]
