Biography
Dorothy was born on 14 May 1583 at Barrington in Somerset.[1] She was the eldest daughter of Amias Bampfylde and Elizabeth Clifton.[1] Her birth date, place of birth and godparents are recorded in a Bible that once belonged to the family.[1]
She married Edward Hancock son of William Hancock of Combe Martin and his wife, Joan Balsh and bore him a son. [2] Her husband committed suicide in July 1603. [2]
Her second husband was John Doddridge of Barnstable in Devon, son of Richard Doddridge and his wife, Joan Horder. Again a son was born. [3]
