Had early experience with X.C.H. Took ])art in rush to Barberton (loldfields, and rem^iined j) osjiecting there for about 2i years. Had sub-contract on Portuguese section of Delagoa l^ay-Pretovia Railway (near Moveni). Resumed service with X.C.R. on return from Delagoa Hay. Left 12 months later to join U. W. Evans, with whom he remained for 12 years, afterwards starting on his own account in 1902. Was at one time well-known as a Cartoonist on the "Natal .Mereurv."
