There were two Spencer Holders living in White County, TN, at the same time. They were about the same age and both married to an Elizabeth. To determine which was married to Elizabeth Hopkins or Elizabeth Nichols, one had to determine how long some of their children had lived and if a death certificate was available. The death certificates, in a majority of the cases, include the names of the parents of the deceased individual. Using this criteria, it was determined the Spencer Holder in this profile/bio was married to Elizabeth Nichols. The other Spencer [Holder-871] was married to Elizabeth Hopkins.

In the 1880 census Spencer's wife, Elizabeth, is listed as a household head with children Meranda, Tennessee, Hannah Jane and George W. living with her. The death certificates for the three daughters have their parents listed as Spencer Holder and Elizabeth Nichols.

This Spencer shows up in the 1860 census but not the 1870 census, indicating he died between those years.
