Biography

Edward Rhoe was born about 1817 in Virginia.

According to a notation on FamilySearch, Edward is believed to have married a Mary Ryan or Ryans, born on May 15, 1818. They could have married around 1835. Mary most likely died, perhaps in childbirth, within a year or two. *From ralphcurtisrhoe1

Edward married Mariah Louisa Glenn on September 11, 1939, in Sullivan County, Tennessee.

The 1850 U.S. Census for Sullivan County, TN, finds the following household: Edward Roe, age 24, male, laborer, born VA; Louisa Roe, age 35, female, born NC; Sarah Roe, age 10, female, born TN; Wm. Roe, age 9, male, born TN; Nancy Roe, age 6, female, born TN; Arta Roe, age 5, female, born TN; Elizabeth Roe, age 3, female, born TN; Joseph Roe, age 1, male, born TN.

The 1860 U.S. Census for Wright County, Missouri, finds the following household: Edward Rhoe, age 38, male, farmer, born VA; Louisa Rhoe, age 47, female, born NC; Sarah A. Rhoe, age 20, female, born TN; Nancy J. Rhoe, age 16, female, born TN; Ellen Rhoe, age 15, female, born TN; Joseph Rhoe, age 12, male, born TN; Mary Roe, age 9, female, born TN; James Rhoe, age 8, male, born TN; Susan Rhoe, age 6, female, born TN; Leander Rhoe, age 6, female, born TN; Angeline Rhoe, age 1, female, born TN. *Edward's age is obvious off.

Edward was mustered into military service in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 13, 1865, according to military records. His birth year is recorded as 1816, and his death year is recorded as November 29, 1907. His residence is recorded as Boise, Idaho. *This could be another Edward Rhoe, but since the dates are almost an exact match, I'll leave this here for now.

The 1880 U.S. Census for Hart, Wright County, Missouri, finds the following household: Edward Rhoe, white male, age 62, farming, born VA, father born NC, mother born VA; Louisa Rhoe, white female, age 64, wife, keeping house, born VA, parents born NC; Susanah, age 24, daughter, TN; Leander Rhoe, white male, age 22, son, born TN; Sarah Coday, age 36, daughter, servant, born VA; Mary Rhoe, age 25, daughter, born TN; Nancy Fagans, age 33, daughter, born TN; Angeline Benton, age 20, daughter, born MO.

In April 1891 the St. Louis Dispatch reported that Edward Rhoe's Civil War Pension had been granted/renewed.

Ed's wife, Louisa, died in 1892.

Ed married Frances Levina Hickman Rippe (divorced) on November 15, 1896, in Wright County, Missouri. Frances' first husband, Baxter "J.B." Rippe, abandoned her and their three young children.

The 1900 U.S. Census for Gasconade Township, Wright County, Missouri, finds the following household: Edward Rhoe, head, white male, born Dec 1817, age 82, married four years, born VA, parents both born in SC, farmer, can read/write; Frances Rhoe, wife, white female, born Dec 1858, age 41, married four years, three children born/living; born MO, parents both born IN, cannot rea/write.

Edward Rhoe died on November 30, 1907, in Missouri. He is buried in Wolf Creek Cemetery in Wright County, Missouri.
