George was born in France where he married Elizabeth Vuillement on 18 January 1752. They traveled to Nova Scotia aboard the "Sally" later that year, and his first wife Elizabeth died on George's Island in Halifax Harbour the following winter. George then married Marie Catherine Mingo at Halifax on 2 May 1753. They had no children; and after spending several years in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, in 1772 they were among the first English-authorized settlers of Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, following the Acadian expulsion.[1] After his second wife died about 1775, he married Marie Elizabeth Langille, who was the mother of his children. There are thought to have been three sons and seven daughters, but not all of the daughters have been recorded. Susan married Jean Frederic Langille, Margaret married Thomas William Slade, and other daughters married John Mingo and James Treen.[2]
