Biography

Hiram Franklin Chapin was a son of Hiram Chapin (1772-1855) and Elizabeth (d. 1850). His birth date is not certain; the Alvord genealogy published it as 7 Apr 1799, however it may have been earlier, such as Feb. 12, 1797, as it appears in a Find A Grave: Memorial #64172998 page of uncertain validity.

He married twice:

1) Orpha (Cannon) (1809-1868), with whom he had the following children:

1. Sarah Chapin (1834-1839)
2. Hiram Clark Chapin (1840-1855)
3. Harlow Chapin (1842-1894); married Lillian L. Taylor

2) 27 Oct 1870 @ Granby, Connecticut, Elizabeth (Alvord) (Gates) (Lee) (1802-1881), twice widowed of Augustus Gates, then Orren Hart Lee; they had no children.

Hiram Franklin Chapin died 23 Mar 1886 @ East Granby, Connecticut, age 87. His grave is in Granby Cemetery , Granby, Hartford County, Connecticut, USA.
