Mary Grenville
Mary Grenville was born in 1525 at Stowe, Kirkhampton, Cornwall, England. She was the daughter of Richard Grenville and Matilda Belville.
Mary Grenville married John Giffard in 1551. They had six children: Arthur (born 1552), John (born 1554), Achilles (born 1556), Roger (born 1558) and possibly Hannibal and Walter[1].
Her death and death location are not recorded. After John Giffard died in 1585, she married again to Arthur Tremayne of Collacombe.
Mary Grenville was the daughter of Sir Richard Grenville (c. 1495 – 1550), lord of the manors of Stowe, Kilkhampton in Cornwall and Bideford, Devon. He was MP for Cornwall in 1529. Mary was the sister of Roger Grenville, believed to have been the captain of the Mary Rose, the ship that sank at Portsmouth in 1545. Roger Grenville drowned in 1545. She survived her husband and remarried Arthur Tremayne of Collacombe with whom it is reported[1] that she had a further 13 children. The last child was born in 1606 - the date which indicates her age at death.
