Biography

Puerto Rican flag
Ángel Mojica Y Diaz has Puerto Rican ancestry.

Ángel Mojica Y Diaz was born on 3 October 1892 in Humacao, Puerto Rico to Juan Mojica Y Alverio and Hilaria ("Eladia" or "Eulalia") Diaz Y Vazquez. According to the 1910 Census he was attending public school at 12 years old, which suggests he finished at least a grade school education, a rarity in those days in that area of rural Puerto Rico.[1][2] He served in World War I as a private in the US Army, 373D Infantry, 94th Division, starting 1 July 1918 to 8 January 1919.[3] Soon after returning to Puerto Rico, on 29 June 1919 he married Carmen Foster Y Pérez in Juncos, Las Piedras.[4] They resided in Juncos with her brother José where Angel was a retailer and his wife worked as a courier and José as a cigar roller.[5] By 1927 he and his wife had moved back to the area he was born in, to Las Piedras, Puerto Rico where he supported his wife and two young children, Pedro and Francisca, as a carpenter.[6][7] By 1940 they had moved to Puerta de Tierra, San Juan.[8] Ángel died on 10 June 1958 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and was buried in the Puerto Rican National Cemetery in Bayamón.[9] Carmen died on 9 May 1987 in Carolina, Puerto Rico of a stroke, suffering from senility, with her last residence as Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico. She's buried in the Puerto Rico National Cemetery with her husband.[10]
