Elizabeth “Betty” (Bartlett) Jekot, 83, died on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, after a brief illness. Betty was born on June 20, 1933, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to the late Dwight and Marion (Otto) Bartlett. She married Thomas Jekot in 1954, and was happily married for 56 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Tom, who passed in 2011, her beloved son, Bill, who died in 2003, and by her sister, Peggy, who passed in 2004. Betty lived in Springfield her entire life until relocating to Belchertown in 1985. She worked for many years for the U.S. Postal Service while raising her son, Bill. In her leisure, Betty enjoyed reading, shopping, spending time at Cape Cod, and spending time with her family. Betty will be deeply missed by her sisters, Mary Jean Hancock, of Boca Raton, FL, and Linda Connery of Springfield, and her brother-in-law, Chet Jekot and his wife, Lorna, of Hampden. Betty leaves her cherished nieces and nephews, Karen Ingraham, Michael Chelkonas (Sherrilynn), Mary-Lyn Alonzo (Glenn), Joel Hancock (Leslie), Nathalie Batiste, Shawn Connery (Dawn), Kevin Connery (Kim), and Colleen Hewlett (Michael), and her great nieces and nephews, Melissa Ingraham, Elizabeth, Emily, Megan, and Kelsey Alonzo, Joe, Carolyn, Christina, and Kaitlyn Connery, and Mikey and Jayden Hewlett. A calling hour will be held on Saturday, November 26, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Hafey Funeral Home, 494 Belmont Ave., Springfield, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 221 Plumtree Rd., Springfield. Burial will follow immediately after the mass at South Cemetery, Mill Valley Road in Belchertown. Donations in Betty’s name may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
