Thomas Calverley of Lincoln's Inn, Temporal Chancellor of the Diocese of Durham,[1] was the second son of Sir Wm. Calverley of Calverley & Elizabeth Middleton of Stokeld.[2] He was born c. 1532, and was also known as Thomas Calverley, esq. of Littleburn.[3]
In 1568 he married Isabell, dau. of Bertram Anderson & Alice Carr.[2]
Their children Sir John Calverley of Littleburn,[3] and Barbara, were legatees of Bertram Anderson's will.[4] His son John, "served on the magestorial bench, becoming custos rotulorem in 1615."[1]
According to Newton (2006), Thomas became chancellor in 1563, and held that position for more than forty years. From 1565, he was also the steward of Durham for over fifty years.[1]
Thomas died in 1613 at the age of 81. He was buried at Brancepeth, co. Durham.[3]
