Sir Alexander HOME, 9th Earl of HOME inherited the title from his older brother Sir William HOME 8th Earl of HOME who had no issue.
Before inheriting the title he had become a Clergyman in the Church of England.
He married Marion HOME whose parents were James of Ayton, HOME and Janet HAIG. They had one son, Sir Alexander HOME the 10th Earl. He inherited the title when he was just 17.
His eldest son, William, Lord DUNGLASS, an officer of the Coldstream Guards, was killed at the Battle of Guilford during the American Revolution, 1781, unmarried. He was succeeded by his second son, Alexander, as 10th Earl.
