James Atteridge was aged about 29 when he was tried in Cork in 1836 accused of larceny and was sentenced to seven years transportation. In May 1836 he was detained on a prison hulk, probably in Cork Harbour.[1] The records noted that his mother was Honora Sullivan and she lived in "Bangan" (probably Bawngore) in Aughadown Parish in West Carbery, Cork.
It is not clear if James was sent to Australia as a convict, at present no records have been found to support this. It is possible he may have been sent elsewhere (eg the Caribbean) or he died on board ship.
