Dr. J.H.A. Lawrence was installed as President of the Canadian Anaesthetists' Society during the Annual Meeting at Kingston, Ontario, in June 1975.

Dr. Lawrence was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, in 1925. He graduated B.Sc. from University of New Brunswick in 1946 and qualified in Medicine at McGill University (M.D., C.M.) in 1950. After Interneship and a Residency in Pathology at Montreal General Hospital he moved west and engaged in General Practice in Drumheller, Alberta, until 1956. From 1956 to 1958 he was a Resident in Anaesthesia at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. He was Certificated in Anaesthesia by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1958, and ioined the staff of Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. In 1967 he became anaesthetist to Rockyview Hospital in Calgary. He is presently Anaesthetist-in Chief at St, Joseph's Hospital, St. John, New Brunswick and Associate Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia, Dalhousie University. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1972. Dr. Lawrence is a Past-President of the Calgary Anaesthetic Society and of the Alberta Division of the Canadian Anaesthetists' Society. He was first appointed to 728 729 Council in 1969, representing the Alberta Division. He became a member of the Executive Committee of Council in 1972 and Vice-President in 1973.

Dr. Lawrence was married to Pat Donovan in 1950. They have one son and one daughter.

Dr. John Lawrence died at Calgary, Alberta, on April 1st, 1982.

Dr. Lawrence was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, in 1925. He graduated B.Sc. from University of New Brunswick in 1946 and qualified in Medicine at McGill University (M.D., CM.) in 1950. After Internship and a Residency in Pathology at Montreal General Hospital he moved west and engaged in General Practice in Drumheller, Alberta, until 1956. From 1976 to 1978 Dr. Lawrence was Anaesthetist-in-Chief at St. Joseph's Hospital, St. John, New Brunswick and Associated Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia, Dalhousie University. He returned to Calgary in 1978 to join the Department of Anaesthesia at Foothills Hospital and became Deputy Director of that Department in April 1980.

Dr. Lawrence was a Past-President of the Calgary Anaesthetic Society and of the Alberta Division of the Canadian Anaesthetists' Society. He was appointed to the Council of the Canadian Anaesthetists' Society in 1969, representing the Alberta Division. He became a member of the Executive Committee of Council in 1972, VicePresident in 1973, and was President of the Society in 1975-76.

Dr. Lawrence is survived by his wife Pat (nee Donovan), one son and one daughter.
