Obituary

Wanda June Davis Sitterding, 84, of Chickasha OK, was born December 10, 1926, in the Harold School District of Grady County OK. She passed away on June 12, 2011, at home after a struggle with congestive heart failure and diabetes.

June was the first child born to George Andrew Davis and Lillian L. Stewart Davis. Life was often hard, especially during the years of the Depression and World War II, but she was surrounded by a large and loving family. June attended schools in Grady County, where she was active in basketball, volleyball, drama, and singing. She graduated valedictorian of her class from Meridian High School and earned two scholarships for business colleges. She was a long-standing member of Bible Baptist Church in Chickasha. In her younger years, June enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, and sewing, as well as fishing and deer hunting with her husband. She was actively involved in several ministries in the churches the family attended. She painted in oils and acrylics as well, as devoted many years to helping care for one of her granddaughters.

In 1945 June met the brother of a school friend who would become her husband the following year. Jack Robert Sitterding and June were married in Anadarko OK on July 3, 1946, in a double wedding ceremony with R.B. Smith and Eva Nell Bailey. June and Jack's first son was born in Chickasha in 1947. They then moved to California and had four more children. In 1975 the couple retired to Cement OK and later Chickasha to be close to family and friends.

June was preceded in death by her father in 1962, her mother in 1967, and her husband of 37 years in 1984.

She is survived by her children: Ronald Gene (Donna Traylor) Sitterding of Silver Creek GA; Janice (Mrs. Randy Cook) of Aiken SC; Phyllis Sitterding of the home; Jack Robert Sitterding, Jr., (Roberta McAleese) of Hazel Crest IL; and Nancy (Mrs. Robert McAleer) of Hayward CA; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Gwendolyn (Mrs. Reaford Shadoan), and a brother, George Ronald Davis (Helen Tatum) both of Chickasha; one sister-in-law, Ruth Cooper of Lufkin TX; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
