Biography
Sophia (Despard) Dallas was born in Ireland.
Sophia Elizabeth Despard was born in 1827[1]. She was the third child of Henry Despard and Anne Rushworth.
She married Captain Arbuthnot Dallas in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 22 December 1846[2].

- DALLAS—DESPARD.—Dec. 22, at Sydney, New South Wales, Right Rev. the Bishop of Australia, A. Dallas, Esq.,16th Bengal Grenadiers, and secretary to the military board, Fort William, to Sophia Elizabeth, eldest daughter of Col. H Despard, C.B., commanding H.M's 99th Regt, and granddaughtter of the late Lord Holmes.[3]
Sophia moved with her new husband to Calcutta, India in 1847.
They had one daughter, Anne Dallas born 28 November 1847.
Her husband Arbuthnot died on 31 December 1848.
In the 1861 England Census, Sophia E Dallas (aged 33) was recorded living at Albyn House, College Road, Brighton, Sussex with her daughter Anne Dallas (13 and a scholar) and two servants.
Sadly her daughter Anne died 9 January 1865 at age 17.
By 1881, Sophia E Dallas (aged 50) was living at 2 Thirlestane Road West, Edinburgh, Scotland. Also in the household were two servants.
Sophia was resident at 118 Thirlestane Road, Edinburgh, Scotland when she passed away on 2 March 1899 in Florence, Italy and was buried at Cimitero Evangelico degli Allori, Florence, Città Metropolitana di Firenze, Toscana, Italy[4]. PLOT: 2PPsSG V 27s

- DALLAS.—On March 2nd, 1899, at Florence, the wife of the late Captain A. Dallas, Bengal Cavalry, and daughter of late Major-General Despard, C.B.[5]
Her Will was proved on 31 July 1899 at London to Henrietta Margaret Akers, widow[6]. Sealed London.
