Biography
Eugene Ervay was born January 8, 1876 in Slaterville Springs, Tompkins County, New York. He was the son of Charles Ervay and Adelia (Stevens) Ervay.
Eugene worked for the Lehigh Valley Railroad as a carpenter. He was described as tall and slender with blue eyes and brown hair. [1]
About 1907, Eugene married the widow Statira (Poole) Woodin, who brought two young daughters to the marriage. They first made their home on South Aurora Street in Ithaca, and sometime before 1920 settled in a home at 623 West Clinton Street. [2][3][4][5]
Eugene died October 15, 1933 in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. He is buried in Hayts Cemetery, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York. [6] His grave is along the right side of the first drive into the cemetery.
Eugene Ervay Dies After Heart Attack
Removed to his home in the police ambulance after collapsing from a heart attack yesterday morning at Cayuga and Seneca Streets, Eugene Ervay, 57, of 623 West Clinton Street, died at 3:30 in the afternoon. He had been employed as a carpenter by the Lehigh Valley Railroad for the past 27 years. Funeral services will be conducted at the home at 2 p.m. Wednesday, by the Rev. A. P. Coman, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Ervay is survived by his widow; two brothers, three sisters: two daughters, Mrs. F. G. Betts and Mrs. Maude Hagin of Ithaca and a grandson, Robert E. Perkins of Ithaca.—The Ithaca Journal, Monday October 16, 1933.
