See discussion in father's biography concerning likely year of birth. That he was born in Paris is confirmed by an act of Parliament, dated 21 February 1676 O.S., "To naturalise Charles Gerard, son of Charles, Lord Gerard of Brandon, Elizabeth Gerard, daughter of the said Lord Gerard, both born in Paris..."
