Raymond Kociuba Obituary
Raymond Kocia 86, of "The Valley" died Monday at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. He retired from Steam Fitters Local 818 and 267 in 1985 as a steam fitter, following 52 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII. A certi-fied carbine marksman, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart while participating in the first wave of the invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach. He was a member of the Valley American Legion Post #1468, Valley VFW and the Society of 1st Division. Mr. Kociuba was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying summers at the river, fishing and hunting, where he was a former member of the Lime Kilm Lake Fish & Game Club. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn Van Epps Kociuba, in 2006. Ray's family would like to acknowledge the staff of 3N at Van Duyn Home & Hospital for the wonderful care given during his stay. Surviving: a son, Michael J. (Michele) Kociuba of Onondaga Hill; a daughter, Lynn Kociuba of Syracuse; a sister, Marie Hart of Jamesville; two granddaughters, Jamie and Lindsay; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 11:15 a.m. Thursday at the Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., Syracuse and noon at St. Michael's Church. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse. Contributions may be made to the Humane Society of CNY or to the SPCA
