Biography

John was born in Derry, Township, Westmoreland County. His grandfather had been commander of Ft. Ligonier in 1777. His father John and mother Jane Porter came to Mercer county about 1815. The portion of Mercer County they lived in was incorporated into Lawrence County on its creation from Beaver and Mercer Counties in 1849,
