Biography

John was born 27 Oct 1757 in Hartford (recorded in Lebanon), Connecticut. ^[1][2] He was the son of Nathaniel Porter of Lebanon and Zerviah Wadsworth of Windsor.^[2]

He married Mary Williams, daughter of Rev. Eliphalet Williams and Mary Williams, on 20 May 1784.^{[1][3] [4]}

John died on 25 May 1806 at Hartford, CT, at age 48.^[3]

1. Mary Williams Porter, b 4 Apr 1785 at Lebanon, CT. Died unmarried in 1837.

2. Charles Porter, b 5 Sep 1787 at Lebanon, CT. Died in 1791 at Lebanon.

3. Charles Leonard Porter, b 23 Nov 1792 at Lebanon, CT, bp 13 Jan 1793 (2nd Ch Rec). He married Amelia Burr, dau of Samuel, ^[2] and had 2 children. Charles L. was Postmaster at Hartford, also a banker, also Secretary to Governor Trumbull of CT.

4. Henry Chester Porter, b 9 Jun 1797 at Lebanon, CT, bp 30 July 1797 (2nd Ch Rec). He moved to New York City. He married first Sarah C. Dodge, and second Susan B. Jewett.
