The date of birth of Alexander Hamilton, 2nd of Dalzell, is about 1645, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Alexander Hamilton, 2nd of Dalzell was the son of James Hamilton, 1st of Dalzell and Beatrice Fleming. ^[1] According to, The Peerage, Daryl Lundy, his mother was Jean Henderson.

Alexander Hamilton married Bethia Henderson, daughter of Sir John Henderson, 5th of Fordell and Margaret Menteith, daughter of William Menteith of Randiford. ^[1] The couple had 2 children: Jean Hamilton and James Hamilton, 3rd of Dalzell, 8th of Orbieston.

In 1668, Alexander Hamilton was ordered to raise three regiments of militia in Lancashire. ^[1]

In the same year, he became 2nd of Dalzell. ^[1]

He passed away in January 1691. ^[1]
