Biography

March Funeral Service Friday President Lewis Orders Suspension of Afternoon Classes. At the chapel services at Lafayette College, formal announcement was made by Dean Donald B. Prentice of the death of Dr. Francis A. March, Jr., professor of the English language and a member of the Lafayette faculty since 1882. Dean Prentice spoke to the students about the life of Dr. March, and praised his work as an educator and his loyalty to the college. Announcement was made that the funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:30 in the Colton Memorial Chapel. Rev. Dr. Charles W. Harris, the college chaplin, will be in charge of the services and the choir, under the direction of Thomas E. Yerger, organist, will take part. Interment will be made in the Easton cemetery. The active bearers will be the undergraduate members of the Lafayette Chapter of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Dr. William M. Lewis, president of Lafayette College, stated today that it is planned to hold fitting memorial services for Dr. March here at a later date, when prominent alumni and friends who knew him well, will speak. Dr. Lewis in chapel praised the work and life of Professor March. The president announced that all classes and laboratory periods will be suspended for the afternoon. “Professor March fought a good fight: he lived his course: he kept faith.” Said Dr. Lewis. “Professor March lived for Lafayette College; he worked for Lafayette College because he loved its students. He taught the quality of manhood to his students; he wanted to make them all real men.” Dr. Lewis asked for the co-operation of the faculty and students to fill as well as possible the great loss in the teaching staff of Lafayette College. It has not been definitely decided who will teach all the classes in Dr. March’s courses. Easton Newspaper, 3-1-1928, Page 13 Provided by David & Carole Hoff
