One of the favorite fishing places of my husband was Clear Lake, Adirondack Mountains, required a hike up a trail of 3 miles along the DeGrasse River from Cranberry Lake, St Lawrence County, NY. The point is, 186 years difference brings new life to the History of the Graves Ancestry.
My husband, of Middle Europe Family (dna proven, no connection to the American Colonists), was neighbor to Wesley Graves, son of John Graves and Leona Olmstead (maiden name), mar. Crump(first husband) ( had twins Gerald & Geraldine), mar. John Graves (2nd husband). Wesley taunted my husband, when he was about 8 years of age, Wesley threw stones into the two pails of hot water he was toting for his Mother's wash. My husband responded with a brutal attack and beat the tar out of Wesley. Wesley's Father (John Graves) complained to my husband's father who in turn, made my husband promise not to fight again. My husband honored his beloved Father. I share this story, for it goes much deeper into the ancestry of these names. You see, Verlinda Graves 1618-1675 was cousin of Admiral Lord Thomas Graves who was in the Naval Engagement with Count Degrasse 21 Feb 1764.
