Sadly, though, Jane died just seven months later, on 15 April 1851. She was buried in Piqua's Johnston Cemetery, where her original gravestone remains. Jasper remarried and, at his death, was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery. His gravestone, however, includes inscriptions for not only himself and his second wife but also for Jane.^[2] Jane's portion of the stone is inscribed "Jane Widney Wife of Jasper Brotherton" with precise dates of birth and death.
