Biography

From www.danielsfamilyfuneral.com "Andrew H. Kerkman, Age 93 of Nekoosa, formerly of Burlington, passed away Monday, May 18, 2009 at Strawberry Lane Rehabilitation Center in Wisconsin Rapids. He was born on November 27, 1915 in New Munster, to the late John L. and Rose E. (nee Hofner) Kerkman. Andrew spent his early life and received his education in New Munster. Andrew served in the United States Navy Seabee's during WWII. On August 27, 1938, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lyons, he was united in marriage to Loraine Gertrude Ehlen. Following marriage they resided in Lyons for 12 years before moving into Burlington where they lived for 53 years. Lorraine preceded him in death on July 27, 2004. Andrew worked for Murphy Products for 45 years. He also worked for the Burlington Clinic, JW Peters & Sons and Burlington Memorial Hospital. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington and the "Holy Dusters". Andrew was also a Little League Manager (Whiz Kids) in the 60's. For 60 years Andrew enjoyed gardening, carpentry, painting and was an all around handyman. He was also an avid Packer, Braves and Brewers Fan. He enjoyed playing sheepshead, bridge and euchre and recounting family history and traditions. Survivors include his children, Karol (John) Sothman of Nekoosa, Charles Kerkman of Texas, Russel (Barbara) Kerkman of Milwaukee, and Patricia (Carl) Luchtman of Cherry Hill, NJ, grandchildren, John (Wendy) Sothman, Michael Sothman, Suzanne (Mark) Gray, Andrew (Cari) Kerkman, Aaron Kerkman, Andrea (Michael) Miller, Adam (Sarah) Kerkman, Alan (Angela) Kerkman, Lauren (Jared) Walters, Kristin Luchtman and Katie Luchtman, and 9 great-grandchildren. Andrew is further survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and by siblings, Gilbert Kerkman, Victor Kerkman, Florence Kiekenbush, Cordella Lois, Claude Kerkman, Michael Kerkman, Ralph Kerkman and John Kerkman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 12:30 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Thielen officiating. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the Church on Thursday, from 10:30 AM until the time of service.
