At 1871 Census at 58 Washington, St, Brighton, Sussex as Laundress. No other occupants of house^[1]

Research notes

• A challenging one this one. Ann is a widow in 1871 and there seem to be no other census records for an Ann Nailard. Before or after,
• That would imply she died before 1881, but there is no death record for Ann Nailard, after 1871 when searching on FreeBMD.
• Looking at possible Nailard husbands, the most likely possibility is a John Nailard, a carpenter. He married Lucy, she died in 1847 in Brighton, aged 46. There is a John Nailard carpenter with a wife Mary Ann in 1851, her birthplace could be Ringmer although born 1816. https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/30239889?h=77cfac
• A widower John Nailard married Mary Ann Packham spinster in Brighton on 11 March 1849. https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/30239918?h=3823ba her father is James Packham also a carpenter. But the Packham family seem to be living in Cuckfield in 1841. Not convinced of that one either. No Mary Ann Packham baptisms in that timeframe.
• A John Nailard died age 63 in Brighton Mar 1869 Vol 2b Page 38,
• Otherwise, a William Nailard had a wife called Hannah, but she died in 1895, and were still married in 1871. They were living in Brighton.
• I have also searched FS for baptism of Ann (in surname) born/baptised RIngmer 1814. But cannot match any of the names to a marriage to a Nailard male.
