He also fought at the battle of Fair Oaks. he spent two months in Libby prison, and was discharged from the army for disability in November, 1862. He was sent to California in the hope that the climate would prove helpful to him. He was under the age limit when he enlisted without his parents' consent, and they endeavored to have him released, but were not successful. He was afterwards a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. Mr. Boyden was also a prominent Free Mason and was a member of the various Masonic bodies in his locality up to and including the Commandery of Knights Templar. He married, December 6, 1864, at Boston, Sarah Jane Kennington, born in that city, July 26, 1847, daughter of John and Alice (Duke) Kennington.
