Biography

John Clawson was a Latter Day Saint pioneer.

John was born in 1828 in New York, United States.

He was the son of Zephania Clawson and Catherine Reese.

He was a Private in Company "D" of the Mormon Battalion. He marched to Southern California and, at Los Angeles, was mustered out of the service 16 July 1847. He then re-enlisted for six months. That enlistment ended 14 Mar. 1848. Sometime after this he traveled to Utah for he appears with members of his family at Salt Lake City in the 1850 federal census. Additional research is needed to determine the exact year he arrived in Utah and the name of the pioneer company with which he traveled.
