Johann Nicolaus Rusche was born on 9 June 1822 in Olvenstedt, Sachsen (Saxony), Prussia to Nicolaus Rusche and Marie Catharine Rusche. [1] He was christened on 21 July 1822 at Olvenstedt.
He married Sophie Neumann circa 1853. They both immigrated from Prussia to America [2], settling in the German community of Fredericksburg, Gillespie Co., Texas. Together they became the parents of Julius Rusche, Richard Rusche, Theodor Rusche, Otto Nicolaus Rusche, and Gustav Rusche.
Nicolaus lived with his wife Sophie and their children on the family farm outside Crabapple, Gillespie Co., Texas. where he worked as a farmer.[3][4]
Nicolaus died on 22 August 1892 in Gillespie Co., Texas [5] and was buried at Rusche Cemetery in Gillespie County, Texas.[6]
Research Notes
Alternate first name spellings in census: Nic, Nicholas, Nicolaus, Nikolaus
Birth location is sometimes shown as Prussia, sometimes Germany in census. Prussia is the more specific and earliest location given, so likely to be correct. Germany seems to have been used after Prussia was dissolved and unified with Germany.
