Biography

Birth

John was born probably in Marshfield, ca. 1692-93, (calculated from age at death),^[1][B], possibly baptized with his parents 4 July 1708, He was the son of John Truant and Silence UNKNOWN and the brother of Mary Trouant, who became the second wife of his wife’s uncle, John Carver (#1-6-9). Alternate DOB is 1704^[B] .

Death

John died in Marshfield 22 May 1749, ^[4] in his 57th year, buried in Marshfield Hills Cemetery.^[5]

Probate

The will of John Trouant of Marshfield, yeoman, dated 17 May 1749 and proved 29 May 1749, mentioned his wife Mary; sons, John and Samuel; daughters, Mary and Lydia, who were minors, under 14 years of age.^[6] The inventory of his estate was taken 29 May 1749 and sworn to by Onesimus Macomber. The account, dated 3 March 1749[/50], was made by Thomas Macomber of Marshfield, who was administrator cum Testamento Annexo^[7].

His inventory was taken on 29 May 1749 in Marshfield.^[8]

On 2 November 1749, with the death of the administrator, Onesimus Macomber, John Tilden the third of Marshfield was granted the administration of his estate.^[9]

Research Notes

A. It appears obvious on close examination of the Marshfield Vital Records that the children John, Samuel, and Lydia born to John and Mary (Rogers) Trouant in Marshfield were, at the time, recorded twice. They were recorded in Vol. 2, on pg. 108 and in Vol. 2, on pg 111. Given that the dates of birth on page 111 are the most complete (and likely recorded on a slightly later/different date,) it may be safe to assume that they are the correct dates for each of the three children. - Thomas H. B. Birth Year if calculated from date on tombstone less 57 years ^[5] would be 1692. Not sure of the source of the 1704 date of birth but it is off by 8 years. -- rsl 4/2019
