Thomas Appleton was a renowned American organ builder.
Thomas Appleton was born 26 December 1785. [1]
Appleton senior was a house carpenter, and he apprenticed Thomas with the cabinet maker Elisha Larned. Thomas was then hired in 1807 by the prominent organ builder William Goodrich. He later partnered with the piano makers Hayt and Alpheus Babcock, before opening his own shop in 1820. [2]
He married Beulah Goodrich on 5 July 1812. [3]
In 1839, he was awarded a gold medal by the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association. His reputation continued to grow until he retired in 1869. His instruments served churches as far away as California and South Carolina.[2]
Thomas died on 11 July 1872. [1]
