John was the second son of John Colthurst and Eliza, daughter of Sir Nicholas Purdon[1]. He represented Tallagh in the Parliament of Ireland between 1734 and 1756[1][2]. He held the office of High Sheriff of County Cork in 1738. He lived at Ardrum, County Cork, Ireland[3][4].
He is referred to as married to Alice Conway, daughter of James Conway, in a deed of 1714[5].
In 1731 he married Mahetabel Wallis[6], daughter of William Wallis[7].
He died in 1756.[8] His will dated 8th October 1755[9] refers to:
