Biography

Miller Fish, son of Miller and Margaret (perhaps née Houghton) Fish, was baptized 31 July 1763 in Fourth Society Congregational Church in Norwich, that part later incorporated as Bozrah, on the same day his mother Margaret owned the covenant and his brother John was baptized.^[1]

Miller and John's father, Miller Fish had died in the siege of Havana, Cuba on 30 August 1762, and so Miller Jr. was likely born after his death.^[2][3] Margaret Fish married widower Ichabod Ford, her third husband, on 11 November 1767.^[1] Margaret died in Lenox, Massachusetts in 1825.^[4]

Miller's first marriage was to Huldah Corning, daughter of Ezra Corning and Mary Hopkins.

Huldah died in January 1806 in Hartford.

Miller married, second, her half-sister, Catharine Corning on 15 Oct 1806.^[6]

Miller died 16 September 1815. His Find A Grave profile lists his birth date as the same date as his baptism, which is almost surely in error. The stone reads that he died age 52.^[8]

Miller was a merchant, and he died intestate with a vast number of assets and liabilities. His probate records cover 92 images. The estate, administered by Seth Terry and his son Henry Fish, was ultimately insolvent. The widow, guardian of his two youngest children, and Seth Terry, guardian of the next four youngest children, from his first wife, were allowed $400 worth of goods and cash from the result of liquidation for support of his six minor children, on account of their tenancy in common of Slip No. 111 in the Brick Meeting House.^[9][10]
