Biography

Jane was born in Hockering, England, in 1851, and baptized July 6, 1851,^[1] the daughter of William Downing and Sarah (Huggins) Kitteringham (sometimes Ketteringham). She married William Flood, also of Hockering, in 1866, and they started their large family in Hockering.^[2]

In 1883, her husband and their eldest son, George, traveled to America, to earn money for the rest of the family to follow. Jane remained in Hockering with the nine younger children. About 18 months later, the William and George had earned about $250 and the rest of the family was sent for.^[3]

Jane came to America aboard "The Queen", arriving in New York on November 13, 1884, with her 9 children. Her mother, Sarah, a widow at that time, traveled with them. They settled in New York^[4] and, eventually, the Livonia area.

Jane died in Livonia in 1918. She was buried at the Union Cemetery in Livonia.^[5]
