The citizenship of Clarksville were greatly saddened when the news was spread announcing the death of Mrs. Mary Jesup. Mrs. Jesup passed away at 9:30 p.m. Monday, March 13, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. C. Roach, on Fifth Street. Her death was caused from paralysis. Mrs. Jesup was 77 years old.
Mrs. Jesup was born at Cadiz, Ky., December 4, 1838. Her parents were M. S. and Clarissa Smith Thompson, early settlers of Trigg County. She was married at the age of 16 to Mr. Stapleton Redd. After many years of widowhood she was married to Mr. James E. Jesup, of Hopkinsville, Ky., where she lived until his death. She came to Clarksville twenty-seven years ago to live and during that time beautiful traits of character drew around her many devoted friends, who delighted to make manifest to her their love and devotion. She had been a consistent member of the Methodist Church since early childhood, and her Christian life was worthy of emulation. Interment will be at Greenwood.
