Biography

Joy was born in Brighton, Sussex, England on 5 Feb 1900, the daughter of William Calvert and Gertrude Thomas.^[1] (see research notes) Joy's birth was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1900 in the Brighton district.^[2] Their family lived in Brighton, Sussex; her father worked as a surgeon.^[3][4]

In 1920, Joy (age 19), her mother and her two sisters were living in Westchester, New York.^[5]

She passed away in 1988; she had been a musician and had never married.^[1]
