Jessie was born in 1880. She was the daughter of Donald Bruce and Sinclair Meiklejohn.

She passed away in 1902 aged 22. Jessie was buried at Waerenga Cemetery where her headstone reads "In Loving Memory of Jessie C Bruce who loved December 14. 1902 Aged 22 years and 11 months."
