Budd was born about 1834, possibly to Henry and Ann Budd in Westminster, London, England and chsristened on June 11, 1834 [1].
The author of a FAG record suggests he arrived in 1851 on the Anna Robertson[2].Anna Robertson, arriving 18 December 1851, brought the largest number of sappers to arrive in the colony in one group: 65[3]. However, most records state that he arrived on the Nile[4]He is described as a lance corporal, 20th Company, discharged in WA.[5]. A service document from the UK mentions a Private George Budd, born about 1830 in Buding, Sussex, England who enlisted in 1848 and was discharged in 1858(this would fit with his arrival in the colony on the "Nile"[6]

In 1862 George Budd married Fanny Backshall in Fremantle, Western Australia [8].
He passed away, aged 48, from Hepatitis in 1882.[9]
