Margaret's husband died in Calcutta on the 24th August 1897.[2]
After removing to Scotland, Margaret Jackson née Steuart died at Edinburgh on the 9th December 1810, aged fifty-two years. Her body was buried in the Coltness Tomb.[3][4]
Research note
The estimated year of birth is inferred from the age recorded at death in the burial register.[4]
Estimated date of marriage:—The parish register recorded the month and year in which the wedding was solemnized, but not the specific date.[1]
Steuart of Coltness:—The fact of Margaret Steuart's burial in the Coltness Tomb suggests very strongly a relationship to the Steuarts of Coltness. However, the reference to the Coltness Tomb in the parish register of Edinburgh is somewhat ambiguous. The Coltness Tomb is situated 35 miles southwest in the choir of the old kirk at Cambusnethan, and was the traditional burying place for the Coltness Steuarts (a cadet branch of the house of Allanton) until it was sealed up in the mid-19th century.[5] There were also a number of Coltness Steuarts buried in Greyfriars' Kirkyard in Edinburgh. Thus it may have been the cases, that Margaret's body was interred in a crypt in the Steuart burying ground at Greyfriars.[6]
