Patrick was born in 1826, his exact surname at birth to be determined.
In 1851, as Patrick Heffernin, he married Eliza Conden, their marriage being registered during the March quarter in the Neath district, Glamorgan. [1]
Patrick and his family arrived in Australia per the ship Glentanner, leaving Plymouth, England, on 23rd August 1855, their names recorded as Patrick and Elizabeth Hefferen, aged 37. They were accompanied by their two children, John, aged 3, and Catherine, 2. Patrick's occupation was a Smelter and the family had been residing at Glamorgan. They arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia, on 26th November 1855. [2]

THE GLENTANNER.
This Government emigrant ship arrived yesterday, as elsewhere reported, after a fine passage of 95 days from Plymouth. The only instance of sickness recorded is a case of measles, first noticed on the 14th September,
from which the patient recovered. Not a single death occurred during the voyage; but the total number embarked; 257, was increased by one birth. The only classification we have at present is the following :— Adult males, 70 ; ditto females, 139 ; male children, 23 ; female ditto, 17 ; infants, 9 ; total, 256. [3]
The first three Australian-born children were registered with the surname Heferrnan, but from 1862, the surname was shortened to Heffrin and Heffron.
Patrick died on 7 December 1908 at Parkside in South Australia. [4]
