Biography

John Gendron was a son of a Huguenot emigrant (1540-1790).

John, born 12 October 1690 in the Province of Carolina, was the son of Philip Gendron and Madeleine Chardon.[1][2]

He inherited land in the area of St. James Santee Parish known as French Santee, where he continued to reside. He represented St. James Santee in the Commons House of Assembly in 1720-1721 and was also a militia captain (1721-1733) and colonel (1733-1754).[3]

In 1718 he married Elizabeth Mazyck, daughter of Isaac Mazyck and Marianne LeSerurier. They had children Elizabeth (m. Alcimus Gaillard), John (d. 1755), Marianne (m. John Palmer), and Catherine (m. John Coming Ball).[3]

John Gendron of St. James Santee made his Will on 17 September 1744, and it was proved 15 September 1755. He names his son John Gendron and daughters Marianne Gendron, Catherine Ball, and Elizabeth Gendron (otherwise Gaillard). His wife is not mentioned in his Will.[4]
