Millicent Maude (Harvey) Bryant was an Australian aviatrix. She is believed to be one of the first Australian women to take flying lessons, and was the first woman to obtain a pilot's licence (licence number 71) from the Australian Aero Club of New South Wales. [1][2]
Millicent was born in 1877, [3] the daughter of Edmund and Georgiana (also named as Georgina) (nee Bartlett) Harvey.
She married Edward James Bryant in 1900, [4] at Pomona, Wellington, New South Wales. [5]
She died on Sydney Harbour on the 3rd of November, 1927, aged 49 years,[6] late of 'Trevenn,' Vaucluse. [7] She was one of the victims [8][9][10] of the Tahiti-Greycliffe Disaster (the steamer 'Tahiti' crashed into the 'Greycliffe' Ferry which was en route from Circular Quay to the Watsons Bay jetty) on Sydney Harbour, opposite Bradley's Head, Mosman. [11][12] The family published this bereavement notice. [13] Her husband predeceased her by one year.
She was buried on 5 Nov 1927 in the Church of England compartment of Manly Cemetery, following a service at Wood Coffill's Mortuary Chapel in North Sydney.[14][15][16]
