James Kilroy was a Massachusettsan.

James Joseph Kilroy, son of James J and Annie (Kilday) Kilroy. His parents were both Irish immigrants.

He grew up with siblings Margaret/Mary, Lawrence, Anne, Thomas, Ellen, and Joseph.

He married Margaret Earner. They had at least 6 children before 1940.

Kilroy was purportedly the originator of the “Kilroy was here” graffiti that was prevalent during World War II.

Kilroy died in 1962. He was buried in the Central Cemetery, Halifax, Massachusetts, alongside his wife Margaret.

In the 1910 census he lived in Boston with his parents, James and Annie, and his siblings, Margaret, Lawrence, Anne, and Thomas.

In the 1920 census he lived in Boston. His mother Annie was the head of house but still listed as married. He also lived with siblings Mary, Lawrence, Anna, Thomas, Ellen, and Joseph.

In the 1930 census he was married and living with his wife Margaret. He was still in Boston.

In the 1940 census he lived in Boston still, with his wife Margaret, and children: Margaret, James J, Mary A, Robert E, Ellen F, and Ann M.
